Create content - Lesson guide

A Lesson activity can be used to build structured pathways through content. You can test students' knowledge as they progress and provide alternative content based on their responses.

Grade Lesson

For a Lesson to be graded, it must have at least one question where a student can receive a score and the lesson cannot be a practice lesson. Grades are calculated when the student has completed a lesson. Grades are kept for every student attempt.

Marking stages

  • If a Lesson essay question has been included, you can grade it from the Grade essays tab within the Lesson activity.
  • Essays will be marked as Not graded under Status column.
    • The status will change to Graded when you have marked it.
  • You can choose to Send essay graded notifications in the Email column to alert individual students or the cohort as a whole.

Essay grade screen

When you select the essay to grade, the screen displays:

  • The student's essay text
  • Any media (video or audio) the student has included
  • Text editor to input your comment, including audio and video feedback
  • The option to add a score to the essay
  • The Save changes button.

Reports tab

The reports tab in the red contextual navigation bar shows the performance of students taking the lesson. Choose from a general Overview and a Detailed statistics dropdown menu.

In Overview:

  • By selecting the specific attempt, the lecturer can view the student's answers to specific questions.
  • It is also possible to delete a student attempt by selecting the attempt and using the drop-down menu to change Choose to Delete.

Below the Overview section, lecturers can also see general statistics: Average score, Average time, High score, Low score, High time, Low time.

More detailed reports on individual questions are available from the Detailed statistics tab.
