Import external content packages guide

Overview of how to import content packages into your Moodle modules for students to access.

About import website to Moodle

You can add a collection of linked files, such as a website with an index.html file to Moodle. This will display in Moodle for your students to interact with. The files need to be saved as a zip file and you need an index.html file within the zip.

Import website to Moodle

  1. Turn Edit mode on.
  2. Open the section where you want to locate the website content.
  3. Drag and drop the zip file onto the section where you'd like it to display.
  4. Choose Create file resource in the popup that displays, then select the Upload button. Your zip file will be uploaded to Moodle
  5. Select the three dots to the right of the zip file on your module page and select Edit Settings.
  6. Select the zip file and unzip it.
  7. Choose the file you want to display initially (for example the index.html file) and in the popup dialogue select the button Set main file. This ensures this file is the one that appears on the course page for students to select. The main file is then indicated with a title in bold. Select Save and display at the bottom of the page.
