How to create a screencast with Kaltura Capture

About locate and upload Capture files

Sometimes you need to locate the source file originally created by Kaltura Capture. Alternatively, Kaltura Capture may not have uploaded your content to MediaSpace correctly.

Unless you have changed the Save location in Kaltura Capture's settings, your recordings are saved on the same device you used to record and can be found using the instructions for both PCs and Macs, below.

Note that these instructions are for a standard narrated screen recording (without webcam footage). Once located, you can upload the source file directly from your computer to your MediaSpace storage, rather than letting Kaltura Capture do it for you

Locate and upload from a Windows PC

  1. Open Windows Explorer on your computer.
  2. In the address bar, copy and paste the following address: %localappdata%\Kaltura\Capture\Recordings
  3. You will see a list of video files (ending .mp4) and other files.

  4. Find your required video file and right-click to select it. It may be easier to locate your files based on their creation date than by their file name, as Kaltura uses alphanumerical file names.
  5. Choose Copy.
  6. Go to your desktop, right click and choose Paste.
  7. You can then upload this file to MediaSpace, submit it as a video assessment or use Handbrake to compress it if it is over 300MB.

Locate and upload from Mac

  1. Open Finder on your Mac.
  2. On the top menu, choose Go > Go to Folder
  3. Copy and paste the following address: ~/Library/Preferences/Kaltura/Capture/Recordings
  4. You will see a list of video files (ending .mp4) and other files.
  5. Find your required video file and right select on it. It may be easier to locate your files based on their creation date than by their file name, as Kaltura uses alphanumerical file names.
  6. Choose Copy.
  7. Go to your desktop, right click and choose Paste.
  8. You can then upload this file to MediaSpace, submit it as a video assessment or use Handbrake to compress it if it is over 300MB.
