About induct students to Teams

Take the time at start of your module to ensure that all your students can access your module Team and understand how it will be used to support their learning.

Student access to Teams

  1. Ask students to download the Teams App for Desktop or Mobile to get started.
  2. Sign in with their City credentials.
  3. Open the App and select Teams from the menu.
  4. Teams that the student is a member of will be available in the centre of the screen. The naming convention for each Team is CUoL- module code, module name, period, occurrence and academic year e.g. CUoL-IP3023 The Governance of the Global Economy (IP3023_A_PRD1_2021-22)).

Explain how Teams will be used

  • Schedule a session at the start of the term to induct students to the Teams being used on your programme.
  • Design an activity on Teams to ensure that all students can access the Teams and become familiar with the key features that you are planning on using to support teaching and learning on your programme.
  • Outline to students how you will be using your Team and how you expect them to interact with you.
    • If you have turned the General channel into an announcements channel, explain to students that they won’t be able to post messages to this channel and include it on the channel description.
  • Explain what material will be available for students on Moodle and what information will be available on the Team.
  • Outline to students how they should communicate with you via both Teams and Moodle and include your timescale for responses to queries.
  • Provide students with links on how they can use features like immersive reader in Teams to engage with Teams in a way that meets their requirements.
  • Remind students that City’s Student Charter, code of conduct and policies and IT user regulations apply to communication on Teams.
