Introduction to Moodle student guide

Find out how to access and use Moodle to support your learning.

About User Menu and Profile

The User menu is where you can find and update your Moodle Profile and set your Preferences for how you interact with Moodle and how Moodle notifies you about module updates. In the User menu you can also find links to Grades, Calendar and Reports.

Access the User menu from the top right of any Moodle page by selecting the drop-down arrow next to your Profile picture.

  • Choose Profile to view your personal details.
    • The photo from your ID card will be automatically added to your Profile. If you want to remove your photo, log a request on IT Self Service Portal.
  • Choose Grades to view overall grades for modules you are taking.
  • Choose Calendar to view upcoming events.
  • Choose Preferences to review and set your language and notification preferences.

Restrict other students' view of your email address

  1. Access the User menu from the top right of any Moodle page by selecting the drop-down arrow next to your name.
  2. Choose Profile to view your personal details.
  3. Select Edit profile.
  4. Scroll down the page to Email visibility.
  5. Select Hidden from the drop-down menu. This will hide your email address from students.
    • Note: Students cannot hide their email addresses from lecturers. Hiding your email does not prevent lecturers from sending you emails using Moodle.

  6. Scroll to the end of the page and select Update profile.
