Peer Assessment using forums, database and workshop guide

Explore the options available for peer assessment activities and assessment in Moodle.

Get started - Workshop

The Workshop activity is only available to staff who have been given the Pilot role on a specific module. The features of the tool are described below.

Detailed guidance on creating and using Workshop is available on the Pilot role guide, along with guidance on how to request the pilot role and the other activities available through the pilot role.

About Workshop

The Workshop allows you to create assignments which can be assessed by students.

Students submit their work to the Workshop activity. Their submissions can consist of text and attachments, and are individual activities. Submission per group is not supported.

The submissions are assessed using a structured assessment form defined by the lecturer.

Students are asked to assess selected sets of their peers' submissions, or alternatively their own submissions (as a self-assessment).

Students get two grades in a single Workshop activity:

  • a grade for their submission (how good their submitted work is)
  • a grade for assessment (how well they assessed their peers).

A Workshop activity therefore creates two grade items in the module's Grades, and these can be aggregated there as needed.

In order to help with submitting and grading, you can provide example submissions along with examples of assessments as a reference.

You can also select particular submissions and publish them so they are available for everyone to view at the end of a Workshop activity
