All DALI rooms have a built-in lectern microphone as well as fixed microphones in the ceiling above the pod and projection screen to capture audio for Lecture Capture. If you walk round the room as you are teaching you can use a wireless lapel microphone. The lapel mic can be used in any DALI room so you can move between rooms with the same mic. You will need to pair the microphone before you use it.
You have now paired the microphone to the system so all audio will be captured on the Echo360 recording. It is good practice to remember the mics in the room will only pick up your audio and not the audience so if a member of the audience asks a question, it is a good idea to repeat the question for the benefit of recording.
In most lecture theatres and lecture rooms which seat 60 or more students, ceiling mounted speakers are available to ensure that the lecturer or presenter can be heard clearly.
In these rooms your lapel mic will work with Lecture Capture and voice amplification.
If your students are having difficulty hearing you and there is no voice amplification in the room, e.g. a large room with 50 students, then contact Timetabling and arrange to move to a larger room with voice amplification.
ELG02 and C303 have controls that suggest that voice amplification is available, however these rooms do not have this feature.
The University has invested in Roger On system to support students, staff, and visitors with hearing loss. The Roger On transmits speech directly to hearing aids and cochlear implants, helping to overcome distance and noise. This is the University’s hearing loop solution.
If a someone is using a Roger On in a lecture theatre, they will ask the presenter to wear an additional microphone around their neck. This will transmit your voice to the users hearing aid. If you have multiple users who are using the Roger On system, they can all pair to the one microphone.
If a someone is using a Roger On in a meeting, they may need to place the microphone on the table or ask for it to be held.
Roger On is available to collect from the Reception areas in College Building, Northampton Square and Bayes Bunhill Row.
