Podium guide

All learning spaces at City are equipped with a podium to facilitate the delivery of teaching and presentation content. The podium is known as the Pod.

About AV Pod controls

The AV in a learning space is controlled via a Crestron touch panel on the Pod

Crestron control

The Crestron is split into two panels.

DALI Pod

Left panel

  • Show or hide the projector image by clicking on the show or hide image icons.  You can also switch between inputs to display on the projector screen by pressing PC, Laptop or Visualiser.
  • Dual Projection allows you to send different content to each screen.
  • Use the System Volume to control or mute the audio in the room.

Right panel

  • A lapel microphone can be paired to the room by selecting the Wireless mic icon. 
  • You can use Screen control to adjust the projection screen up and down. If there are two screens you can move each screen independently and show or hide either image.
  • If Lecture Capture is available, the recording status will be indicated on the panel.
  • If Camera setup is available, you can select, control and view the camera angle.
  • Use Report a problem to report a non-urgent matter in the room.
  • Use System off to turn the projectors and Pod system off.
  • Use Microphone volume to control or mute the microphone levels in the room.

 

Dual projection

Dual projection, which is available in some DALI rooms, allows you to send different sources to each projection screen e.g. PC image on one screen and visualiser image on the other. 

  • To control the images on each individual projection screen, select the Dual Projection button.

  • You will be presented with the matrix grid. Choose where you want source/s to be displayed.

Lecture Capture can only record one of the sources being used. To set the correct source to record use the matrix grid to select the content to capture from the Lecture Capture column.

Lecture Capture camera angles

You can control the Lecture Capture camera via the DALI control panel. This means that that you can choose what section of the front of the room will be recorded.

  • Choose Camera setup on the right-hand side of the panel to open the camera setup options.
    • Selecting AV Pod will automatically focus on the Pod area.
    • Selecting Whiteboard Left or Right will focus on the selected Whiteboard.
    • You also have the option to Zoom In or Out as well as using the arrow icons to fine tune the setup.

Wireless and room microphones

All DALI rooms have a built-in lectern microphone as well as fixed microphones in the ceiling above the pod and projection screen - so audio will be recorded as long as you stay near the whiteboard and projection screen while teaching.

You can order a wireless lapel microphone for voice reinforcement and to improve Lecture Capture audio quality via IT Self Service Portal. 

Lecture Capture controls

A Lecture capture is recording message will display in a red banner on the main page of the Crestron panel when a recording is active. The lecture capture icon on the right hand side of the panel will turn red.

  • Use the Pause Capture and Resume Capture buttons to control the live recording.

  • Use the Stop Capture to cease recording completely. You will not be able to resume a Lecture Capture recording after selecting Stop Capture.
  • Select the Lecture Capture and then the Monitor buttons to monitor a feed of your live recording including camera angles. .

Report a problem

  • Select the Report a problem icon on the main page of the Creston Panel. Select if you need immediate assistance or if you are reporting a non-urgent AV issue.
  • In an emergency, dial 1 from the in-room phone to contact Security.

Group work controls EG03 & EG04

Rooms EG03 and EG04 have a group work setup making it easier for students to share work between themselves as well as presenting to the class.

  • To enable this, select the Local Group Work check box on the Crestron plane This will give students the ability to work between themselves and display one of their chosen PCs to one of six monitors assigned to each cluster of desks.

  • You then have the ability to select a group's work to be displayed on the main projector for the whole class to see. Simply select the Group Work Mode button and you will be presented with a menu. You can then choose which desk you would like to be displayed on the main projector.

You also have the ability to send different inputs to each desk e.g. PC input to Desk A, Visualiser input to Desk B.

  • To activate, select the Local Group Work checkbox, then select an input you would like to be sent to a specific desk. Once selected, you will be presented with a menu. Choose which desk you would like that input to be sent to.

Whiteboard controls B200

In room B200, you have the opportunity to use the portable whiteboards and to control the camera position in the room to display to students in class or via a Lecture Capture recording.

  1. Select the Camera Setup button on the touch panel and choose Mini Pod for the camera to focus on the whiteboards within the room.
  2. Then select Show camera image on screens to display to the students in class.
