About polls in Echo360

Echo360 has an additional interactive media option for all of your video or audio content.

A Poll is a reusable question or activity panel that can be added into media, requesting a response from the viewer. The poll restricts the playback of your media so that the viewer cannot continue viewing or listening until they respond to the poll.

Tips to create your poll

  • If you need to edit your video (eg trimming the beginning/end, snipping out parts in the middle), you will need to do this before adding any polls.
  • If you want two poll questions to run on from each other, they must have timestamps of at least one second difference. They cannot both be added to the same timestamp.
  • We advise you to add the first poll question, select Play so that the video moves to the next second, then pause and add the next poll question.
  • You should make it clear to students that they only have one opportunity to answer each question and cannot change their answer once it has been submitted.
  • Students will be shown their answer along with the correct answer (if one is identified). If feedback has been provided for the poll, they will also see that below their response. Students also see a Continue button that allows them to continue playback of the media.
  • For all Interactive Media, you can view students' responses from the course Polling tab, or from the Polling tab of the Media Details page. From either place, you can select the LMS/VLE or Echo360 course where the item is published, and then select which poll's responses you want to view. In addition, both polling response locations provide the option to download student responses to a CSV file.

Limitations

  1. When you add a poll to a Lecture Capture, it creates a new recording in your Echo360 Library.
  2. This recording is not available to students via the link to Lecture Capture in their module and instead must be shared with them.
  • We recommend that polls are used in clips of recordings or screencasts that you have recorded via Zoom and imported into Echo360.
  • These interactive recordings can then be embedded into Moodle's Page and Book resources using the Echo360 Lecture Capture plugin in the text editor.

Embed your Echo360 Poll in Moodle

  1. Turn Edit mode on.
  2. Open the Book or Page where you want to embed the interactive Lecture Capture video. Select Settings from the contextual navigation menu.
  3. Within the Content input field, place your cursor where you want the embedded video to display.

Content area of Page with Echo icon highlighted

  1. Select the Echo360 icon (the small blue circle around a pale blue triangle) from the text editor. You will be directed to your Echo360 library.
  2. Search for the video (with poll) that you want to embed.
  3. The embed code will be added to the text editor.
  4. Select Save and display to review the embedded video.
