Extend your use of Lecture Capture by ingesting your Zoom recordings and recording student presentations.

About creating learning resources with Lecture Capture

Some lecturers may decide to come on campus to record their lectures to create learning resources for students.

You might decide to use in-room Lecture Capture to create resources when:

  • You need to use a large whiteboard.
  • You need access to specialist software that is available on the Pod PC.
  • You do not have reliable internet access at home.
  • You do not have a quiet space to do your recordings.

Before coming on campus

  • Find a Lecture Capture enabled DALI room.
  • Book the room using the Timetabling system.
  • Once you have confirmation that you can come on campus. provide at least two working days notice and request to schedule your Lecture Capture via IT Self Service Portal.
  • You should also include a booking for a test that you can review to ensure that your inputs are working as expected before you record a long series of Lecture Captures.
  • You can request in room AV support using the AV Request form on the IT Self Service Portal. You must provide at least two working days notice to request in room support.
  • Make sure you have everything you need to record your lecture. This will include:
    • PowerPoint and lecture materials saved to OneDrive or USB.
    • Lapel microphone.
    • Laptop and connectors for the Pod if required.
    • Whiteboard pens.
    • Whiteboard eraser.

Record your lecture

Instead of recording a one or two-hour lecture and putting it on Moodle, think about breaking up your lecture into smaller chunks. Students’ attention spans will vary, but a good rule of thumb is to present content in chunks lasting no longer than 15-20 minutes.

Review your upcoming lectures and prioritise the key points or concepts. For every hour of lecture, see if you can create three short recordings (five to ten minutes), which cover the key points or concepts. These will be more accessible and more likely to be watched by students.

Each recording should be clearly labelled and linked to a task or activity that you would like students to complete.

Recording tips

  • Plan out your script.
  • Schedule a Lecture Capture session which is longer than your lecture (this gives you wiggle room for setting up and if you want to re-record anything).
  • Leave pauses in the Lecture Capture to help with editing and to indicate when you are moving onto a new topic.
  • Edit the long recording into discrete chunks when the recording is finished.

Finish your recording

Before leaving the room please disinfect any equipment which has been handled during recording.

This includes microphones, cameras, IT equipment and desk surfaces.

Additional resources

Record the whiteboard

Use the Camera setup option on the Pod to move the camera so that it captures the whiteboard. There is a Whiteboard camera preset option on the DALI Pods. The DALI Pod Guide provides more information on how to use the DALI pod effectively.
