Gamification in Moodle guide

Use concepts and designs from games to make learning more motivating and engaging.

Progress tracking

"Gamification should orient the learner to where they are in the instructional process, where they are going, and how much further they have to go until the end. The concept is that the learner is able to “see” progress."

(Kapp, 2014)

Checklist

The Checklist provides a colour-coded overview of a student's progress on a module.

Activity completion

Moduel index showing activities to be completedActivity completion allows the lecturer to set completion criteria for a specific activity or resource. The criterion might be viewing, receiving a certain score or a student marking it as complete.

Any activity or resource which has activity completion set will appear in the Module index with a small circle next to it. When the student meets this criteria, the circle will appear filled in.

Activity completion conditions also display in the activity card on the module page and at the top of an opened activity.

Activity results block

The Activity results block displays results from graded or rated activities in a course. It may be set to display on the main course page, or on the page of a particular activity.

You can then choose to display a number of highest or lowest scores, whether to display individuals or groups and the privacy level of the results.
