Edit MediaSpace videos guide

This guide will explain how to edit videos in MediaSpace

About trimming

Users can trim the beginnings and ends of their videos to produce tighter starts and finishes.

There are two ways to trim a video:

  • Select-and-drag the yellow Handlebars at either end of the timeline and resize your video.
  • Place your Playhead at the relevant timecode(s) and use the Split and Bin functions.
    • Locating a specific timecode on your timeline can be tricky if it is a long video. Use the Zoom sliding bar to zoom in and out on your Timeline be more precise with timecodes.

Log into MediaSpace

  1. Log into Mediaspace using your legacy City username and password and select My Media.
  2. Choose the video that you want to edit by selecting the video frame or title of the video.
  3. Select the drop-down arrow against Actions and select Launch Editor.

Use Handlebars to Trim

  1. Select your timeline: Select your timeline by selecting or tapping once on it. A yellow box with small rectangles - Handlebars - at either end will appear around it.

  2. Reposition your handlebars: By selecting one of the Handlebars, you can drag and reposition where the video starts and ends.
  3. The grey areas at the beginning and end of the clip’s timeline will not appear in the final edit of the video. They simply give you a visual representation of where media has been removed from your clip.
  4. Select Save a Copy button on the top right of the screen.

Use the Playhead/Set In and Set Out to Trim

  1. Position your Playhead: Move the long green/blue Playhead line to the timecode at which you wish to start your clip.

    • You can manually select-and-drag the Playhead to the relevant position, or you can Play/Pause your video at the required timecode and your Playhead will automatically navigate there.

  2. Set the In timecode: When the Playhead is in the correct position, select the white open bracket on the Playhead to confirm your In timecode.

  3. Set the Out timecode: Repeat the previous step for your desired end position, but this time select the white closed bracket on the Playhead to confirm your Out timecode.

  4. Trimming your media can modify the source media permanently. We recommend choosing Save a Copy when familiarising yourself with the functionality.
