About Moodle navigation

Navigating Moodle is very much like navigating around the web page. You can select links to open content and you can use the browser back and forward buttons. This guide will provide an overview of the different Moodle pages and the key navigation features.

  1. Go to https://moodle.city.ac.uk
  2. Select the Login button from the top right of the page.
  3. Enter your university credentials: Username (e.g. abcd123), Password and select Login.

My Moodle features

Once logged in to Moodle, staff and students see the My Moodle page. This displays:

My Modules

  • My Modules provides access to the modules you are enrolled on. Select a module name to open it.
  • You can use the Select by Year and Select by Term filters to help you filter your modules as you progress through your programme. The module list can be filtered by Year and/or Term to help you find relevant modules. Select the drop down menus to select a specific year or term. The default setting displays the current year. When a filter has been applied, the module list turns red.
  • The filter is persistent. If you set your Filter by Year to 2021-22 and log off, the next time you log in, your filter will continue to display only modules from 21-22. You will need to change the Filter by Year to find modules from previous academic years.

My moodle search box

My Favourites

  • My Favourites lists all modules you have added to your Favourites (by selecting the star icon alongside the module on the My Moodle page or within a module).
  • You can clear the list to remove all your favourites.
  • You can also reset the order they are listed in. Select the move icon to reorganise the order of your favourites.

Search Modules

To search for modules, start typing in the name or code of a module in the Search Modules input field and select the relevant result to open the module. You will only be able to access modules that you are enrolled on.

Recently accessed modules

Modules that you have reviewed are listed under Recently Accessed Modules at the top of your My Moodle page for quick access next time you login to Moodle.

Top Navigation bar

The top navigation bar enables you to navigate between your modules.

  • My Moodle returns you to return to the My Moodle page from any location in Moodle.
  • My Favourites lists all the modules you've favourited.
  • My Modules lists all the modules you're enrolled on organised by year and term. Select any module name to go to that page.
  • Moodle Menu, when a module is open, this allows you to jump to a specific section.

The Activity Feed Block located alongside your Recently accessed modules provides recent updates from your modules and enables you to visit the updated content easily. If you are accessing Moodle on a mobile, the Activity Feed Block will default to the bottom of the screen.

  • The Timeline block provides an overview of deadlines on modules you are enrolled on.
  • The clock icon enables you to set a time period for which to display deadlines.
  • You can choose to display deadlines by date or by module using the filter icon.
