Create content - H5P

Create engaging and interactive content using H5P in Moodle.

What is H5P

H5P is an abbreviation for HTML5 Package. It is available to all staff to use as a core Moodle feature.

The H5P activity in Moodle enables you to create interactive content for your modules. You can use H5P to, for example::

  • create engaging, interactive presentations
  • enable students to practise what they learned with short quizzes
  • help students develop their critical and decision-making skills with branching scenarios

H5P activities work well on mobiles as well as desktops, so students can interact with them at a time, pace and place that suits their requirements.

It takes time to create effective H5P activities so this isn't a quick resource to complete, but H5P is an exciting addition to our suite of tools to support more flexible teaching and learning approaches.

Watch our screencast for an introduction to H5P below.

Case study

H5P accessibility

We have restricted the the choice of H5P content types only to those that H5P state are accessible and supported.

In Moodle 4, you may find that a content type you created in Moodle 3.9 no longer works. This includes: mark the words, sort the paragraph and image choice and cross word. If you have previously used a content type that H5P lists as inaccessible and/or unsupported, you will need to delete this content type after you rollover or import your module content for the new academic year in Moodle 4.

Review the H5P accessibility information for an overview of accessible and inaccessible content types.
