Add multimedia to Moodle guide

Explore how to create Video Resource in your module and how to embed content from external repositories.

About YouTube

YouTube is the online video sharing platform that probably needs no introduction. You might want to include YouTube videos on your module to provide instructional guides, for language learning or to provide content for analysis or discussion.

Restrictions on embedded multimedia content

Find video

  1. Go to YouTube, find and click on the video of your choice. Underneath the video select the Share button. 
  2. A pop-up will display. Select the Embed option.
  3. The embed code will display. Select Copy underneath the embed code to copy the code to your clipboard.

Embed video on Moodle Page resource

  1. Open the relevant module.
  2. Turn Edit mode on.
  3. Open the section where you want to display the video.
  4. Select Add an activity or resource. From the Resources tab select Page.
  5. Give the Page a meaningful name.
  6. Scroll to the Page content input field.
  7. Input some contextual information about the video that you are embedding. You could also include some questions that you want the students to consider as they watch the video.
  8. On the top-row of the text editor, select the Arrow button to display the full functionality of the text editor.
  9. Select the triangle brackets icon to display the HTML code.

  10. Place your cursor in the location within the content where you want the video to display. Paste the embed code into the text editor.
  11. Select the triangle brackets icon to review the Page.
  12. Select Save and display to review the embedded video.
