Get started with Moodle 4 staff guide

Find out what Moodle 4 is, how it is organised and used at the University and how it interacts with our other systems.

About Moodle Profile

Your Moodle Profile contains your name and photo. Your name and photo display to students in the Participants page and when you add Forum posts.

For new starters, Moodle Profile photos are automatically added from a staff member's staff profile, if you have one, or ID card.

In Moodle 4, IT uploaded photos for staff who started in 2022 and 2023. If your photo is available in your public staff profile and is not available on Moodle 4, please log a generic request on the IT Self Service Portal and attach the photo you would like to display in Moodle and this will be actioned.

Preferred pronouns

There is no dedicated field for pronouns in Moodle yet, but you can add them to your description.

  1. Select your photo on the top right to open the user menu.
  2. Select Profile > Edit Profile.
  3. Under Description, add your preferred pronouns.
  4. Select Update profile.

Anyone selecting your name from the Participants page will be able to view your pronouns.

The user's profile picture is displayed. Below, the word About me: My pronouns are she/her.
