Blocks guide

Find out how you can use Blocks to provide additional functionality and content to your module.

About blocks on Dashboard page

Once logged in to Moodle (moodle4.city.ac.uk), staff and students land on the Dashboard page. The page provides access to modules and activities that require action e.g, grading for staff and assessment deadlines for students. The page contains five blocks.

Organise Dashboard

The Dashboard is very flexible and you can organise the blocks the way you want to interact with it. For example, as a staff member you might find it more useful to move the Module overview block to the top of the page. Switch Edit mode on from the top of the page and use the compass icons on the top right of a block to drag and drop the block into a new location on the page.

Personalise Dashboard

You can add more functionality to the Dashboard.

  1. Turn Edit mode on from the top of the page.
  2. Open the Block drawer to the right of the page.
  3. Select Add a block. An overlay will display with available blocks.
  4. Select a block to add to your Dashboard.
  5. The block will remain in the block drawer but you can use the compass icon to drag it to the central column of the page.

Reset Dashboard

If you remove a block or re-organise your Dashboard, you can reset it to its default state at any time.

  1. Turn Edit mode on from the top of the page.
  2. Select Reset page to default button at the top right of the page.
