Create Quiz guide

Overview of how to create a Moodle Quiz and how to add your questions to the Quiz.

Ordering question type

The ordering question asks students to put items into a meaningful order.

Possible elements in an ordering questions could be the steps in a critical medical procedure, phrases of a computer code, or sections of a sentence to check understanding of grammar.

Create ordering question

  1. Access the Question bank through the contextual navigation menu, select More, then, Question bank
  2. Select the relevant category to organise your question. Select Create a new question.
  3. Select Ordering question from the question type dialogue box.
  4. Select Add.
  5. Complete the settings as required.
  6. Select Save changes.

Settings to note:

  • Item selection type: Select a subset of all the items in the list to appear in the question. You can choose either a random subset of the items, or a contiguous subset.
  • Grading type: Select how to grade the answers. There are options to use an all or nothing grading type, or other grades based on how many items are correctly ordered and their positions in the list and in relation to each other. Select the question mark icon next to Grading type for a full explanation of each option.
  • Grading details: Select whether to show or hide details of the grading method.
