Create Turnitin Assignment guide

Turnitin is an online assessment management system that you can use to support student submission, provision of grades and feedback. It also includes a similarity check. This guide provides an overview of how to set up Turnitin assignments.

Sharing rubrics and grading forms

Once you have created a rubric or grading form, it will be available to you in all the modules you are enrolled on via the Rubric Manager.

If you want to share a rubric with colleagues, you can export your rubric or grading form from the Rubric Manager as an rbc file.

In the same way, if you want to use a rubric or grading form which belongs to someone else, they can export it, share it with you, and you can import it into your Rubric Manager.

Turnitin Assignment Settings

  1. When creating and/or editing your Turnitin Assignment, select GradeMark Options in the assignment settings.
  2. Select Launch Rubric Manager.

Import and apply a rubric

  1. Select the Import/Export button on the top right of the Rubric ManagerImport export button
  2. Select Import. An overlay will open.
  3. Select the saved rbc file of your rubric.
  4. Wait for the green check mark to appear and then select View.

  5. You can rename the file or make any edits if needed.
  6. Select Save at the bottom of the screen to save your changes. Move your cursor outside the Rubric overlay window. This will return you to the Turnitin assignment settings.
  7. You can now select this rubric to use from the Attach a rubric to this assignment drop-down field. A new Rubric typically defaults to the bottom of the list.
    • If the Rubric does not display, save your assignment and then return to edit it. This will refresh the Rubric Manager and your Rubric will appear in alphabetical position.
  8. Select Save and return to module.
