The MILL and TV Studio

This guide will explain the capabilities of the MILL and TV studio

The MILL

The Media & Innovation Learning Lab (The MILL) is a suite of facilities and equipment available to staff for multimedia creation. It is run by Learning Enhancement and Development.

Discover all the ways you can bring your multimedia ideas to life with a 30-minute in-person tour of the MILL facilities. Use the MILL Tour form on IT Self Service Portal to schedule a tour on a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday.

MILL Production Booths

The MILL has two purpose-built, quiet production booths, one with a high-spec Mac and one with a high-spec PC. They both offer quality webcams and professional-quality microphones for screencasting, web conferencing and podcasting. Both rooms are suitable for video editing. Each computer also has Camtasia software for creating screencasts.

To book a booth on a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday, please use the IT Self Service Portal.

MILL Presentation Station

The Presentation Station is a recording system for creating educational videos. It allows a presenter to be superimposed over a background, which can be an image, a screen capture, or a PowerPoint presentation. To keep the presentation on track, the notes from a PowerPoint can be displayed on-screen or the built-in autocue can be used.

The recording is saved as an mp4 video, which can be easily uploaded to a user's MediaSpace for use in their teaching.

To aid production time, the video is made live. With a title generator, pre-made arrangements and and an opportunity to pause, with a little planning no post editing will be required.

The system is located in the former TV Studio within the LEaD office (room B315) on the 3rd floor of University Building. To book a booth on a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday, please use the IT Self Service Portal.
