The MILL and TV Studio

This guide will explain the capabilities of the MILL and TV studio

1. Preparation

  • Think about the flow of your presentation and what material you'll cover, the desired length, and the different arrangements you may want to use.
  • It may be helpful to include detailed slide notes to help keep you on track as you're presenting.
  • If you are going to be superimposed over your slides, remember to leave room on the slide for your body.
  • Do not wear green as it will be also be removed.

2. Door notice

Place the notice on the door so you won't be disturbed.

3. Change the desk height

Raise or lower the desk for your height.

4. Start the system

Log in to the computer using your City credentials.

Double click on the Presentation Station icon.

After 7 seconds the system will be ready to use.

5. Set-up your PowerPoint

Open your PowerPoint onto the Wacom screen so it's ready.

Three things to ensure...

  1. If you are presenting on top of your PowerPoint show, make sure there is ample space within it or you may obscure your material.
  2. A PowerPoint show in 16:9 ratio is best suited to video.
  3. Make sure your PowerPoint is in Presenter by a Speaker (Full Screen) mode and Presenter View is OFF. When made full screen, it should be on the Wacom.

6. Are You using notes?

Set up your PowerPoint notes, the Autocue or the Text Editor with some notes to help you keep on track.

To add to the appeal of the presentation, consider using scene tags to automatically change scenes as you present.

7. Get in position on the mat

studio mat, surrounded by yellow markings

It's best to give a presentation from one place, namely on the mat. This is optimally placed to avoid green spill from the green screen and to give you good lighting.

You can set up your scenes as you like them, and position yourself and scale yourself on screen as necessary. This is best done from the mat where you'll be presenting from.

You can of course move to the table to use the keyboard to say set up your titles or get your PowerPoint ready. Just move back to the mat when you are ready to record.

8. Set up your scenes

Decide on which scenes you are likely to use in your presentation. You may only need one or may want to use all of them. You'll need to set up each using the settings panel.

9. Adjust Your recording volume as necessary

Change your audio settings by pressing the AUDIO SET-UP button on the main interface and adjust your microphone volume as necessary.

10. Record

When ready, press the RECORD button. After a short countdown, the system will start recording.

11. Look forward

Try to always look forward, at the flashing green eye in the middle of the screen.

This will ensure you are looking straight at your audience.

12. Movie flow and breaks

As you deliver your presentation you can move between slides using the clicker / on screen controls and change to a new Scene at any time.

You may want to take a rest break or move to the computer to make a screen-only recording. One way to do this is to fade to the Blank scene and then press PAUSE. You can then set up the next part of your recording and when you are ready, press PAUSE again to resume the recording. Change from the Blank scene to your desired scene. In the final recording, the audience will see a seamless fade to Blank, followed by a fade from Blank to your new scene.

13. Stop and view your recording

Press the STOP button to stop your recording.

To view it, and to see any of your other recordings, click on the VIEW button. You'll be presented with thumbnails of your recordings in date order (latest first). Click on a thumbnail to get the video to appear in a player.

14. Make more recordings or exit

When finished, choose EXIT to shut down the Presentation Station. After a few seconds the application will close.

All your scene settings and titles are saved for next time.
