STEM Digital Studio guide

This guide will give you useful advice around using the new STEM Digital TV Studio and the production of video presentations for your courses

PowerPoint tips

  • Set your slide layout to 16:9, not 4:3
  • Font size: avoid small text (28pt and above)
  • Font colour: consider accessibility issues (e.g. no yellow on white)
  • Leave room in each slide for yourself to appear on the video
  • Length of slides: be concise. Do no spend too much time presenting a single slide

What to wear

  • The green-screen technology used by Rapidmooc means that certain colours of clothing should be avoided. Anything green, turquoise or light-blue will become translucent.
  • Avoid anything with fine stripes or checked which will sparkle or create halos.
  • Avid wearing clothing anything which has text on it as it will be recorded as mirror image.
  • To allow attaching the lapel microphone, wear something which has pockets, collars or is front opened.

General presentation tips

  • A short rehearsal can prove beneficial in getting a good recording and can actually save you lots of time in the long run
  • Keep on track and don't waffle
  • It is better to break a long talk into several smaller videos
  • Don't duplicate word-for-word on screen what you are saying. Use your slides in a more visual, explanatory or emphasising way
  • Use your body and body language to emphasise and engage with your audience
