STEM Digital Studio guide

This guide will give you useful advice around using the new STEM Digital TV Studio and the production of video presentations for your courses

About the teleprompter

This displays text on screen for you to read as you give your presentation. The text is not recorded.

  1. Ensure the script you wish to read from is saved as a Word document (.doc) or text file (.txt).
  2. Copy the script onto a USB stick and plug it into the back of the RapidMooc system. Alternatively, download the script from OneDrive or your email onto the Rapidmooc.

  1. On the RapidMooc system, go into Record video mode.

  1. Select the Teleprompter button.

  1. Select on the Load button.

  1. Locate your script and highlight it. Click the Select button.

  1. Select the Settings icon to change how your script appears on screen, including options for
    • scroll speed

    • etc.

  1. Press the Start button to start the recording, this will automatically start the teleprompter with your loaded script. The text will not be visible on the recorded video.

Trigger actions (advanced)

Triggers are words which automatically run actions, such as changing camera positions or pausing your recording. Triggers are identified by using square brackets [ ]. When the teleprompter hits the Trigger, it will run the action.

Trigger examples
TRIGGER ACTION
[camera3]  change to camera 3. You can specify cameras 1-8
[fade] fade in or fade out
[st:my_template] change to a particular scene template, in this case the one named "my_template"
[vm:greenscreen] change the video mode to Green Screen
[stop] stop the recording.
[pause] pause the recording.

Triggers can be physically typed or you can use the ones on-screen.

Using PowerPoint notes (advanced)

It is possible to make the notes from your PowerPoint presentation appear in the teleprompter area. These notes can also contain triggers to control the Rapidmooc.

There are some limitations though:-

  1. The same PowerPoint presentation must be present on the Rapidmooc system AND your laptop / lectern PC. Only the notes from your presentation are used on the Rapidmooc.
  2. You need to control your slide show on your laptop to match the notes on screen. To help you, you may want to write prompts in your notes to remind you to change slides.

Loading notes from a PowerPoint presentation (advanced)

  1. Place the same PowerPoint presentation onto the Rapidmooc and your laptop / lectern PC.
  2. Follow the same steps as Loading a Document but select your PowerPoint presentation instead of a text file.
  3. Start your presentation on your laptop / lectern PC and start recording on the Rapidmooc.
  4. Change slides as needed or when prompted.
